full-time

Stile creates world-class classroom resources for science teachers (we call them superheroes, because… they are). Stile’s resources are used by almost half of Australian Years 7-10 students. All of our resources (think videos, lesson plans, questions, investigations, puzzles, and more!) are delivered through our web-based teaching and learning platform and it’s all been built right here in Australia. Every single day, over 100,000 students and 8,000 teachers around the country (and increasingly around the world) use our resources. We’re very proud of what we’ve achieved since we started out, just eight years ago.

And now, we want to explore if we can bring our modern, real-world, rigorous approach to Mathematics.

Maths is the language of science. The two disciplines are so entwined they are virtually inseparable. And so with Stile’s science resources being so widely used and loved, we are eager to create a maths curriculum resource that will inspire and challenge young minds right around the country.

We will initially create mathematics resources for Years 7-10, and down the track, may end up creating them for earlier or later year levels.

That’s why we need your help!

We are looking to hire an innovative maths nerd to join our team to help us create kick-ass resources! Ultimately, we’re looking for someone who lives and breathes maths. Someone creative who loves working from a blank slate. Someone who is passionate about improving the standard of education available to students around the world.

For the right person, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. You will play a crucial role in conceiving a maths resource that could one day be used by hundreds of thousands of students. If you love explaining concepts to students, if you love that “penny drop” moment when something clicks in their minds, if you love the idea of amplifying your talents to inspire a generation, this is the role for you.

You’ll also have the rare opportunity to work directly with Australia’s outgoing Chief Scientist Alan Finkel, who will be leading Stile’s mathematics team. Alan, one of Stile’s founders, is highly accomplished, inspiring, driven and a delight to work with.

Sound interesting?

If so, please read on below to find out more about what’s in it for you, and to read about responsibilities of the role in further detail.

If you’d like to apply, please send us your CV and a cover letter (no more than a page or two) explaining why you’re going to smash this role out of the park. Include a paragraph on which Behaviours of an Effective Stile-ist most resonate with you or which you disagree with and why. Address your letter to Clare Feeney and send both documents to jointheteam@stileeducation.com.

Applications close on Friday 26th February 2021 at 11:59pm (AEST).

We can’t wait to hear from you!

The Details

What’s in it for you:

  • You’ll join an amazing 50-strong team of teachers, scientists, artists and engineers. Imagine a workplace where everyone genuinely cares about, and is working towards, improving scientific literacy amongst our young citizens. We hold ourselves and each other to a high standard and love what we do.

  • You’ll work with the Content team to create a range of learning resources that include lessons and videos. You’ll also work with our in-house illustrators to create cool infographics and posters and our Engineering team to create interactive simulations.

  • Your own professional development – we’re lifelong learners here at Stile. Alongside teaching you everything you need to know to succeed in this role, you’ll have the opportunity to attend internal and external PD.

  • The annual company snow trip (COVID willing, of course).

  • A Mac laptop, and whatever other bits and pieces you need to be productive remotely.

How you’ll spend your time

  • You’ll work side-by-side with our ‘dream team’ of other teachers, simulation designers, illustrators, animators and editors to make the best science resource in the known universe.

  • While a lot of your day will be spent writing lessons you’ll also be involved in writing and creating videos and posters that rock, as well as designing simulations that make difficult concepts easier to grasp in fun and engaging ways. You’ll also make sure our lessons have all the bells and whistles to make teachers’ lives easier, such as model answers and supporting teacher notes.

A bit more about you

  • You’re passionate about sharing your love of maths with others. It doesn’t matter if you’re a writer, communicator or educator, what’s most important is that you want to share your passion for science and maths with hundreds of thousands of students across Australia and beyond.

  • You have a strong maths background – this is essential for success in this role. Studying mathematics in at least your first year of university study is a minimum.

  • You don’t need to be a teacher (though it will no doubt give you a leg up if you are) but you do need to understand the principles of good learning design.

  • You’re an excellent writer. You can communicate complex scientific ideas clearly to a younger audience.

  • You’re creative. You know how to bring content alive for students.

  • You love working in a fast-paced environment. We’re small; we move quickly.

  • You’re eager to learn. Super eager. You soak up feedback, incorporate it, and are constantly driven to be better. You can’t help it.

  • You’re smart and you love to get stuff done.

  • You’re constantly thinking about how you could do your job better and accept feedback willingly. But you also aren’t afraid to defend something when you think it’s right.

Hours and location

This is a full time, permanent role with some flexible work hours. While we think collaboration in an office environment is an important part of building the best possible resources. We also appreciate that working from home or away from the office both offers time to really concentrate and the flexibility needed in modern life. Need to pick up the kids? No worries – we’re all about what you achieve, not the hours of the day that you achieve it.

As part of the social distancing measures being put in place to curb the spread of COVID-19, we’re currently working fully remote, so you’ll need to be able to work from home. In normal times, our (awesome) office is located on Exhibition Street in Melbourne CBD.
