Science Teaching Superhero

I already know that you’re a pretty kick-ass science teacher.

I already know that science excites you.

And I already know you work tirelessly to ignite that passion, that spark of curiosity, in your students.

But… I also know that you could be having an even bigger impact.

You see, we’re trying to lead the biggest ever evolution in science education in Australia. It’s happening quietly, calmly, without a lot of fanfare. But you’d better believe it’s happening. We’re already working with 42% of middle school students in Australia. That’s 1 in every 3 high schools.

But I need your help.

I need your help to inspire your fellow science educators. I need you to help those fellow educators design programs that make students sit up and take notice. I need you to be the trusty sidekick you wish you had yourself.

I need you to join our incredible 40-strong team, spending your days visiting teachers and classrooms across NSW, demonstrating the use of high impact teaching strategies with our teaching resources, and helping those teachers craft a world-class science education for their students.

I need you to help shape the future of science education in Australia.

Your friend,

P.S. We want to hear more about you! Have a read of ‘the details’ below. Then send us your application to Your application should include your CV and a cover letter addressed to Jaclyn Rooney telling us why you’ll smash it out of the park. Include a paragraph on which Behaviours of an Effective Stile-ist most resonates with you or which you disagree with and why. This is a full-time role based in NSW, starting whenever you can.

The Details

This is a full-time opportunity based in NSW. We have a preference for Sydney just because it has a higher density of schools, but we’re pretty flexible on that. We do have a (very) small office in Sydney, though HQ is in Melbourne.

Expect to be working remotely or at a school most of the time.

What’s in it for you:

  • You’ll join an amazing team of teachers, scientists, artists and engineers. Imagine a workplace where everyone genuinely cares about, and is working towards, improving scientific literacy amongst our young citizens. We hold ourselves, and each other, to a high standard, and love what we do.
  • A unique opportunity to get a first-hand understanding of how a huge cross-section of different schools, departments and classrooms work. You’ll form strong relationships with heads of department and school leadership as part of this role (always a plus if you think you’ll want to go back to classroom teaching in a few years time).
  • Your own professional development - we’re lifelong learners here at Stile. Alongside teaching you everything you need to know to succeed in this role, you’ll have the opportunity to attend internal and external PD.
  • You’ll be attending quite a few conferences* as part of this role, including CONASTA.
  • Flexibility of hours and holidays. This is a full-time role, but you’ll be in control of your calendar.
  • A few trips* to Melbourne each year, and to Mount Buller for the annual company Ski Trip!
  • The opportunity to influence and shape the ongoing development of Australia’s #1 Science Resource.
  • A car, mobile phone and laptop!

*As part of the social distancing measures being put in place to curb the spread of COVID-19, we’re currently working fully remote. This means that any conferences, training, and traveling that is normal to this role have been put on hold. Rest assured that we’ve modified how our business is being run so that we are equally effective as we are safe.

How you’ll spend your time:

You’ll spend your time at schools (you’ll need a drivers licence), and working remotely. If you’re in Sydney, you’ll be at our Eastern Suburbs office sometimes too

  • Working with teachers, both one-on-one and in groups, modelling how to incorporate high-impact teaching strategies into their existing practice with the help of Stile’s resources.
  • Helping departments rebuild their science programs, or helping them fit Stile teaching resources into their existing scope and sequences.
  • Working with heads of department and school leadership to ensure we understand their strategic school goals, and are proactively helping them work towards them.
  • Teaching science lessons! That’s right, you’ll get all the fun of taking a science class, without the marking and report writing.
  • Hosting “Pint Size PD” events. Yes, this means you get to shout the drinks at the local pub. You’ll also be involved in organising and presenting our full-day professional learning workshops.
  • At designated times, provide live-chat online support to teachers using Stile.

A bit more about you:

  • You’re a science teacher. You’ve probably got between 1 - 5 years experience in the classroom, but we’re really happy to hear from grads and experienced teachers too.
  • You’re comfortable with using technology, especially in a classroom setting. Ideally, (though not necessarily) you’re an experienced Stile user.
  • You're eager to learn. Super eager. You soak up feedback, incorporate it, and are constantly driven to be better. You can't help it.
  • You’re self-motivated, organised and can work independently.
  • You're smart.
  • You find a way to get it done.

Working at Stile

We invest in our people because we believe that great people in a great environment can achieve amazing things. People don’t join Stile to have a cushy job; they join to do fantastic things with incredible people. We set high expectations and then help you to exceed them.

That said, there are plenty of “the usual” perks:

  • A friendly, fun and informal team environment.
  • A modern office in the heart of the CBD.
  • Fully stocked kitchen, chillout areas, a kickass sound system for after-work events and unlimited coffee.
  • Regular social and team-building events for staff throughout the year.
  • A commitment to the career development & training of all staff members.
